Even the Covid pandemic can’t keep local singer-songwriters — or a good cause — down.

For nearly a decade the Eugene Caldera Songwriting Tribe has offered an evening of community, celebration and song as a benefit for the Egan Warming Center, which provides cold-weather shelter and food for the homeless in the Eugene-Springfield area. The annual event, traditionally held during the holiday season, has drawn standing-room-only crowds who have come to hear some of the area’s brightest musical talents, while supporting the vital community services that Egan provides.

To accommodate state and local pandemic-related restrictions on public gatherings, the Caldera songwriters have decided to continue their annual benefit in a new format. A one-hour pre-recorded concert will be released on social media on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, and will include nationally known artist Beth Wood. A second benefit concert video will be released in March.

“We want to make sure that the community gets its annual fix of original Americana music, mixed with humor and a heartwarming spirit of community,” said Steve Gibson, a veteran singer-songwriter and one of the organizers of this year’s event.

All viewers are welcome and will be asked to make donations of between $5 and $20. All donations will go to Egan Warming Center, a program of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County, and can be made at www.svdp.us(Click on “Donate Funds” on the left side of the page and designate a gift for Egan.) Donations of material goods, including hats, gloves, blankets, coats, sweaters, pillows, socks and toiletries, should be clearly marked for Egan and dropped off at SVdP’s attended drive-through donation center at 2890 Chad Drive, near Costco in north Eugene.

This year’s list of musical performers includes Joan Campbell, Rosana Costello, Suzi DeFazio, Carl Falsgraf, Annie Heron, Laura Golden, Stacy Henle, Marilyn Jordan, Rudolph Korv, Cathy Martini, Willie McEachern, Kathy Marshall, Paul Neville, Julia O’Reilly, Ron Selfridge, John Shipe, Katie Sontag, Grisha Stewart, Dave Taylor, Art Willey, Beth Wood and Ken Zimmerman.
